Furthermore, iTunes is no longer about helping you to enjoy and organize your music, like the good old days. Now iTunes must drag you into to the iTunes music store every time it gets the chance. I have heard from many users that the genius playlist, recommends 2-3 times more songs from the iTunes music store than from there own collection. Not to mention the nagging and suggestions every time you start iTunes.
The latest editon of itunes simply didn't work for many users of the vista operating system. This is completely stupid of apple and there is no excuse for this. A company as large as apple with such a large fan base should have tested the hell out of iTunes 8 before it's launch. iTunes is simply losing it's flavor, the younger generation, ie 16 and younger, no longer need iTunes. This generation and many more for that matter, are becoming comfortable with their computers and will learn how to live without iTunes. Many users even those who are not so tech savvy, can now do without the convenience and ease of use that iTunes offers. There are many solutions that allow us to load music onto ipods outside of iTunes, and also to music out side of the itunes store.
Unless apple makes some big changes iTunes is going down hard, maybe not fast, but definitely hard. This is a program that cannot survive on it's current code base. Much like the 1000 pound man cannot survive on his couch, some one would recommend moving him to a hospital bed. I would say move him to the gym. iTunes needs to be completely recoded and redesigned from the ground up. Until that happens I am just going to keep pounding nails into the coffin of iTunes. Anyone have a shovel ?

I love winamp. I can custimize my music and playlists 100's of times better than any iTunes program. and it's got a ton of plug-ins.
I also use my Zune player...it does it's job, but its nothing spectacular.
I don't like iTunes anymore either. As you said, iTunes will drag you into the iTunes store every time it has the chance to do so. That is not what I want from my music library! It seems to me as if it is all about selling music and that's it. Not good, actually, ba---d! If I want to buy some music, I'll buy it. Either in iTunes, in a physical shop or somewhere else. But I don't need no software to ask me if I want to buy something. I'll tell myself. Dear iTunes developer, do something about it or you'll go down in history.
Its the hard tie-in to the iPhone that totally pisses me off!! And releasing untested drivers??? WTF? A first year coder knows better! To make matters even worse, as a musician, it bitches at me when I try to rip/burn my OWN work!!! And I'm a frik'n member of ASCAP and Grammy! Grrrrrrrrrrr!!
Itunes 8 is brilliant - love it. Automated playlists is the best thing yet.
Can't disagree with you here. I'm having a lot of problems justifying keeping iTunes installed when the ONLY thing I can honestly say I like about it is that it tends to pull up some very high-res, crisp album art... if you are lucky enough to listen to music that is in the store.

What is everybody on? Turn off the mini-store/genius bar and don't show the iTS links then the only way you can get to the store is to click on it. Personally, I don't have time to wade through the 8 million+ songs it's 'lucky' enough to have and those buying aids help me out loads.
As for the tech issues, they hold more credibility coming from developers who's software is successful.
Don't get me wrong, sticking to the man is very rock'n'roll - if you're 12 but where are the real arguements here?

I agree, I was desperately hoping for itunes 8 to clean up, become sleeker and better. But this is just enough, the first program ever that stalled Vista with their first version. And as said bigger and all about selling. I hate that it is now bundled with Quicktime, Mobileme etc. and the worst is that with the Ipod Classic I simply need to stick to it. What a shame. I was so close to buying a Mac but at the moment I am just to angry about Apple. This is like Microsoft in the worst days.

I think you made my point exactly, why would you download and install an application that is 64 mb, and then start turning off the default features in order to use the product. I would much rather download a much smaller product and add things to it as I find them useful.
As far as "sticking it to the man". I don't care who the software is made by, if its not good, its just not good. By the way I would hardly consider Apple the man, while they do have a large market share in the music business the company itself isn't that big yet.

yea, I thought iTunes was kinda cool to offer songs for DL on the net... why go out and buy a $20 CD when there's only one good song on the whole thing?
but if there's all that horse crap to contend with, it's turned into another evil business beast
